Asia 2008

The primary objective of this trip was to seek out existing traditional tea houses and gardens in and around Kyoto, Japan - as necessary research for the design and construction of my tea house (see Lucknow Towers). However, we then came across a tour operator with a Far Eastern tour which not only included Kyoto but also a number of other places that we either wanted to visit or to go back to, not least the Angkor complex near Siem Reap in Cambodia.

As it turned out, the tour started in Kyoto, then to Tokyo (by shinkansen), Hong Kong (by air), Guangzhou (by train), Guilin (by train), down the Li River to Yangshuo, Bangkok (by air) and finally Siem Reap (by air).
