Siem Reap and Angkor
Siem Reap is a very pleasant town in northern Cambodia. It would be a worthwhile destination in its own right, but the main reason for coming here is of course the Angkor complex of temples and palaces which are only a few kilometres away. It is important not to focus purely on the central Angkor Wat - Angkor Thom and Bayon are possibly even more interesting, as is Ta Prohm which has been deliberately maintained in the state that it was in when it was barely saved from the encroaching jungle.
