
The photo right shows the roof complete. Rather than using preformed ridge caps, I felt that a more suitable finish would be to use a length of stout bamboo - which is what what appears to have been done for the gate in Kanazawa (see here).
This meant cutting out a long section of the bamboo to fit over the top rows of shingles, while leaving the ends intact.

The photo left shows the inner detail of the roof construction and highlights the beautiful colour of the Western red cedar after rubbing with boiled linseed oil. You will have to take my word that it smells even better!
