Other than that, laying the shingles was fairly uneventful - although laying the top courses at the front was a bit challenging! Obviously I had to use an extension ladder with roof hooks to get up the roof, but it was still quite difficult to get onto the ladder in the first place. But, as the photo shows, putting a workbench on top of the platform did the trick - and also provided useful temporary storage for shingles.

Around this time, the weather was starting to get wet and windy, which highlighted another issue. Despite what I had thought was very careful positioning, the front of the tea house was a bit close to one of the eucalyptus trees and required the shingles and ridge units to be cut back an inch or two on this corner (see left).
