Basic frame (contd.)

trying two corner posts and side girt for fit

The next step was to cut the corner posts (4x4" - 100x100mm) complete with tenons to fit into corresponding mortices cut into the sill beams (thankfully my only mortice and tenon joints!). I also cut 1" (25mm) notches into the posts to accommodate the side and back girts (also 4x4").

two corner posts and side girt fixed and clamped

The photo above shows the right side corner posts and side girt test assembled with temporary braces.

This photo shows the same assembly fixed using adhesive and 4" (100mm) galvanised nails ('toe-nailed') and clamped (using 2 pairs of clamp heads and long pieces of 2x1" timber).
