In compiling this family history we have accessed a wide variety of sources, both online and otherwise. Of particular relevance have been the collections of the Devon Record Office, the Cornwall Record Office and the Society of Genealogists, and membership of the Devon and Cornwall Family History Societies. And the Cornwall Online Parish Clerks website has been very useful.
We have also received very helpful information from many relatives, both distant and close, for which we are very grateful.
Researching the Stranger name in particular was given a good start by the work already carried out by Edward Davies (see Strangers). And Viv Hony (my 2nd cousin 1x removed) had already traced our Baron ancestry in Cornwall back to around 1600.
It has also been a pleasure to have had contact with a number of others with overlapping areas of research, most notably:
- Anne Brooks - whose main interest is the Nosworthy family, but provided a lot of information on Strangers in the Channel Islands, Canada and Australia, largely drawn from earlier research by Susan Grant (who unfortunately I have not been able to contact)

- Mark Easterbrook - who has similarly extensive coverage of the Easterbrook name, especially in Devon and Canada
- Scott Stranger - on the descendants of my 2nd great grand uncles John and Thomas Stranger and also of John Cann Hector and his wife Lucy Anne (nee Stranger) in the USA
- Nick Serpell - a one-name study of the Serpell name worldwide
