The ends of the dōbuchi needed to be slightly set into the oyabashira. This was done by cutting shallow holes using a wide flat-bladed drill bit at the marked positions, although as the widest such drill bit commonly available is 40mm this meant that some of the holes had to be enlarged slightly to the required diameter using a curved chisel. The dōbuchi were then nailed into the oyabashira and mabashira using sufficiently long annular nails.
The photo right shows a pair of oyabashira and a mabashira with all three dōbuchi fitted.

The photo left shows a close-up of a dōbuchi set into an oyabashira.
