Roof (contd.)

Since there was no internal ceiling, I wanted the inside of the roof to look attractive. So, in addition to staining the rafters, I decided to fit some sort of natural roof 'liner'. Standard reed screening was ideal and relatively easy to cut and staple to the rafters.

Also at this stage, I made two 'blind' gable ends from 18mm external plywood, which I painted with an external quality satin finish paint in a colour intended to resemble old lime plaster (as chosen for the eventual wall cladding).

Notice the open section of the front roof which was necessary for fitting the large sections of reed screening and which it made sense to leave open as long as possible to facilitate access to the upper roof.
