Formed in 1969 by Frank Zappa as a sister label to Bizarre Records to release material by slightly off-centre artists (although these artists were not nearly as extreme as those on Bizarre - hence the contrasting names).
Its artists included Captain Beefheart, Alice Cooper and Tim Buckley. Distribution was through Warner or Reprise Records. After the relationship with Straight ended in 1973, the DiscReet label was created.
