atabaques

A set of three single-headed Brazilian hand and stick drums made of staves like a barrel. The skin is made from cow hide, and tightened through a system of metal rings, rope and wooden wedges.

They are similar to Cuban tumbadoras (congas) and are used primarily in religious ceremonies of the Candomblé and in the martial art capoeira.
