soprano guitar

Also called an octave or piccolo guitar, this is tuned an octave higher than a conventional guitar. The body size is that of a baritone ukulele with nylon strings usually tuned with same intervals as a guitar at a fifth higher register - ADGCEA. The sound is like that of a more complete ukulele, using the same chord shapes as on a guitar.

Like many instruments in the mandolin family, sustain is limited and, unlike the mandolin's tremolo, is not easily extended. The strings are necessarily thinner than those of a guitar, bringing an associated difficulty in maintaining accurate tuning for extended periods of time.
