lever harp

A type of small to medium-sized folk or Celtic harp which uses levers to change pitch. It can range in size from 2 to 6 octaves and is often tuned to the key of C or E-flat. The most common size has 34 strings: 2 octaves below middle C and 2 and a half above (ending on A), although folk or lever harps can be found with anywhere from 19 to 40 strings. The strings are generally made of nylon, gut, carbon fibre or fluorocarbon, or wrapped metal, and are plucked with the fingers using a similar technique to the pedal harp.

The traditional folk lever harp is often used in traditional Celtic folk groups, but studio versions also exist.
