A bottle-conditioned and carbonated dark amber ale which is brewed for strength and is aged for a minimum of 9 months in whiskey casks. This ageing process adds complexity to the beer, with hints of smooth oaky vanilla, toffee and spirit underpinning the notes of sweet and spicy forest fruits derived from the base beer. Finally, to finish, the beer is bottled using the methode Champagnoise at the Camel Valley Vineyard.
Curiously not mentioned on the St. Austell website, so may not be in regular production. Presumably based on the recipe for the original Smugglers Ale, which is also not mentioned.
