A museum located in Cleveland, Ohio. Created in 1983 by Atlantic Records founder and chairman Ahmet Ertegun, it is dedicated to archiving the history of some of the best-known and most influential artists, producers, engineers and others who have, in some major way, influenced the music industry through the genre of rock music. A nominating committee composed of rock and roll historians selects names for the Performers category, which are then voted on by roughly 500 music experts across the world. Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Around 5 to 7 performers are inducted each year.
