Drummer for the electric blues band Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble.
Born in 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Layton moved to Austin, Texas in 1975 and 3 years later joined the newly-formed Double Trouble. Tommy Shannon joined in 1980, and the two of them played with Stevie Ray Vaughan right up until his tragic death in 1990..
Layton has played with various artists since Vaughan's death, including the Arc Angels, with Charlie Sexton, Doyle Bramhall II and fellow Double Trouble alumnus Tommy Shannon; Storyville, also with Shannon, vocalist Malford Milligan and guitarists David Grissom and David Holt; the Laura Love Band; Kenny Wayne Shepherd; Jimmy D Lane, and most recently a Double Trouble recording with various guest stars.
