British rock drummer.

Appice was heavily influenced by the jazz drumming of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa, combined with extensive classical training. From his early days with Vanilla Fudge, which he joined in 1966 and which has been considered by many to be the first heavy rock band, it was clear that Appice was creating new standards for rock drumming.

After Vanilla Fudge, Appice went on to form Cactus in 1969 with bassist Tim Bogert. While Appice and Bogert were in the lineup, Cactus charted with 4 albums between 1970 and 1972. This union evolved in 1973 into an alliance with guitarist Jeff Beck, a combination known internationally as Beck, Bogert and Appice which had a gold-selling album of the same name.

Appice was a member of the supergroup KGB, which featured Ray Kennedy, Rick GrechMike Bloomfield and Barry Goldberg and made one charting album in 1976.

One of the premier showmen in rock, Appice became known worldwide for his astonishing live performances, in addition becoming a highly sought-after session drummer, recording with countless artists throughout the 1970s.

In 1976, his friend Rod Stewart invited Appice to join his band, which he worked with during the remainder of the 1970s and early 1980s.

After a rewarding period with Stewart, Appice left to pursue his own projects. His first solo album, Rockers, was followed by tours of the US and Japan. He then led the high-energy band King Kobra, recording two albums on Capitol Records and touring internationally.

In 1989, he was part of the trio Blue Murder with John Sykes and Tony Franklin, which had one charting album.

Appice has worked with a wide range of artist including Stanley Clarke, Ozzy Osbourne, Ted Nugent, Pink Floyd and the Edgar Winter Group. He has also worked as an educator in drumming method, producing several books and videos and running master classes and instructional clinics around the world.
