A discount 78 rpm label sold through Woolworth's in the UK. During its run, the imprint's releases were pressed by Oriole Records and released double-A side, cover versions of UK Top 20 hits, usually recorded by artists working under a pseudonym.

In 1965, Embassy was discontinued by parent label Oriole, who sold the company, their studios and two pressing plants to Columbia Records.

In 1970, CBS Records revived the label as CBS Embassy as an imprint for US Columbia recordings for sale in the UK and Western Europe. In 1980, CBS' parent closed the revived Embassy imprint.
