ECM (Editions of Contemporary Music) was founded in Munich, Germany in 1969 by Manfred Eicher. ECM is best known for jazz music, but has released a wide variety of recordings including acoustic and electronic versions of eclectic contemporary music.

The label has been distributed in the US by Polydor Records and PolyGram, and is now distributed by Universal Music.
