taiko drums

Simply means 'drum' in Japanese, but typically refers specifically to a type of a double-headed drum and a style of performance.

A miya daiko consists of a barrel-shaped hollow drum body with hides nailed directly onto the body on both sides.

The type of taiko known as shime-daiko is classically cunstructed with the skin placed over metal rings which are then tightened with ropes.

An o-jime daiko is very large and produces powerful sounds and strong vibration.
