Weissenborn guitar

During the the Hawaiian music craze in the US in the early 20th century, the US maker Hermann Weissenborn designed a special type of lap slide or steel guitar. As a steel guitar does not need a roundneck, his design has a square hollow neck, as an extension of the body, making conventional playing impossible.. This design now forms the basis for most non-resonator acoustic lap steel guitars currently produced.
