A Brazilian single-stringed percussion instrument that originated in Angola. It comprises a wooden bow (traditionally made from a branch of the biriba tree) with a single steel string running from one end to the other, with a gourd or metal receptacle with an opening on one side which acts as a resonator.

It is played with a coin or stone, a thin bamboo stick and a basket shaker (caxixi) and is used in the martial art form capoeira.
