An annual set of awards for the best works and achievements of science fiction or fantasy of the previous year. The awards were first given in 1953 and are named after Hugo Gernsback, the founder of the science fiction magazine Amazing Stories and were officially named the Science Fiction Achievement Awards until 1992.The awards are given each year at the annual World Science Fiction Convention after voting by WSFS members.
