Jacobowsky, a Jewish refugee, flees from the Nazis with an aristocratic, anti-semitic Polish officer, Colonel Prokoszny, trying to get papers to England. The colonel learns to appreciate Jacobowsky, despite their competition for the same woman, and together they outwit their pursuers.
