The Tony Williams Lifetime
formed:
1969
disbanded:
1974
website:

A trio formed by jazz drummer Tony Williams in 1969, with John McLaughlin on guitar and Larry Young on organ. Jack Bruce joined on bass later. Lifetime was a pioneering band of the fusion movement, a combination of rock, R&B and jazz. Their first album, Emergency!, was largely rejected by the jazz community at the time of its release because of its heavy rock influences, but is today considered by many to be a fusion classic.
