Bass player with Savoy Brown from 1968 to 1970, when he left to form Foghat with Roger Earl and Dave Peverett. After four albums, Stevens left Foghat in 1975 to concentrate in a career as actor.

In 1975, Andy Mackay (from Roxy Music) was asked to compose the music for a TV series, Rock Follies, about a female rock trio (which included Julie Covington). A band, which included Stevens on bass, was formed to play all the music as well as appearing in the series. Stevens then formed a band called Nobody's Business with Joe Jammer.

In 1979, he joined Maggie Bell in her new band, Midnight Flyer, before splitting in 1982. He then joined Cheetah, a hard rock band led by two beautiful singers from Australia. In 1984, he joined Roger Chapman until 1988. In 1993, he rejoined Foghat.
