A British jazz musician born in Edgware, Middlesex. He was a musical prodigy at the age of 7 and appeared as a featured soloist with Glenn Miller when he was 10 years old, playing the drums. He quickly became a multi-instrumentalist playing piano, vibes, drums, congas and other percussion as well as composing and arranging for his bigger ensembles.
Feldman recorded with Ronnie Scott's orchestra and quintet from 1954 to 1955. It was Scott who recommended that Feldman emigrate to the US, which he did in 1955. Once there, his first steady work was with Woody Herman. From there he went on to join Buddy DeFranco. He recorded with many different jazz artists, including Benny Goodman, George Shearing, Cannonball Adderley and Miles Davis.
Feldman was in great demand as a session musician, and branched out into rock music. He was a member of the Abnuceals Emuukha Electric Symphony Orchestra around 1967 when Frank Zappa recorded the orchestral parts for Lumpy Gravy, where he played tympani and Latin percussion. He also worked with artists such as Steely Dan in the 1970s and Tom Waits in the 1980s.
