A viola and guitar player best known for his work with Caravan and Murray Head and as a key member of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra.

After graduating from Winchester School of Art in 1972 he joined Spirogyra, but the band broke up shortly after and he joined Caravan on viola. In the mid 1970s, he diversified into session work, including with Kevin Ayers, Café Jacques, the Buzzcocks and Captain Sensible. In 1976, he joined the Penguin Café Orchestra and played on all subsequent albums. He left Caravan in 1978, but briefly returned between 1979-1981, playing on The Album.

Later in his career, he has toured with Murray Head, Penguin Cafe Orchestra and Bob Geldof. He has also recorded with Murray Head. He rejoined Caravan again in 1995 and continues to record and tour with them. He released a solo album, Viola Mon Amour, in 1993, followed by two albums with fellow Caravan band member Jim Leverton. As a session player he has appeared on more than 120 records as a viola player and multi-instrumentalist.
