Founded in 1991 by entertainment attorney Allen Jacobi. Early distribution was through Sony, but was later switched to Warner.

Releases have included artists such as Robert Palmer, Earth Wind and Fire, the Band, the Stray Cats and the Doobie Brothers.

In 2005, Pyramid began a new distribution deal with Fontana/Universal.
