A guitar banjo or banjo guitar is basically a 6-string banjo made by attaching a 6-string guitar neck to a 5-string bluegrass or 4-string plectrum banjo body. It is tuned like a guitar and can be played by guitarists who desire the sound of a banjo without having to relearn fingerings.
It was popular in the jazz and swing music of the 1920s and has become increasingly popular since the mid-1990s.
